Introduction
Rite Aid skin moisturizer is a highly toxic skin care product. This product's official name is Rite Aid Skin Care Lotion, Dry Skin Formula. This product is a toxic chemical cocktail with many of the ingredients never even tested for safety according to the C.I.R.- Cosmetic Ingredient Review. Positives There is nothing positive about this product according to the ingredient label. The Rite Aid moisturizer does not meet any natural ingredient parameter. It is not certified organic and it uses synthetic chemicals that have been tested on animals. The fact that it is not certified organic - obviously - means that there is a possibility the product contains G.M.O - genetically modified organisms - and pesticides.
Negatives
The Rite Aid skin moisturizer is a toxic chemical cocktail with many of the ingredients never even tested for safety according to the C.I.R.- Cosmetic Ingredient Review. The chemicals that are certified by the C.I.R have been tested on animals. Cancer Causing Agents
The only area that Rite Aid Skin Care Lotion, Dry Skin Formula excels is in the toxic parameters. It meets 9 of 12 toxic parameters, including the most serious ones. The Rite Aid moisturizer contains carcinogens - Butylated hydroxytoluene and Triethanolamine. These chemicals are direct cancer causing agents.
Cancer Linkage
Rite Aid skin moisturizer also contains 5 ingredients - DMDM hydantoin, lecithin, SODIUM PCA TOCOPHERYL ACETATE and Triethanolamine - that have been linked to cancer and other health concerns. Lactic acid is also present which directly damages the skin and increases the risk of skin cancer.
Penetration Enhancers
Also in Rite Aid skin moisturizer present in this product are 4 penetration enhancers - DISODIUM EDTA, lecithin, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, UREA. These agents work to infiltrate the skin membrane - i.e. penetration enhancer - and in doing so may increase exposures to carcinogens.
Untested Chemicals
Rite Aid Skin Care Lotion, Dry Skin Formula contains 10 unassessed chemicals that have not been assessed for safety in cosmetic formulas by the C.I.R These chemicals are Titanium dioxide, GLYCERIN, FRAGRANCE, Carbomer, Titanium Dioxide, Corn Oil, Cetyl Phosphate, Collagen Amino Acids, Stearamide AMP, Yellow 10, Sunflower Seed (Helianthus Annuus) Oil.
Fragrance
Of concern to sensitive people is the presence of - the vaguely termed - fragrance. This is an allergen and can cause allergic reactions to some people.
Parabens
Rite Aid moisturizer also contains methylparaben a chemical that has been recently linked to breast cancer in women. This study was reported by the BBC Sunday 11 January 2004.
Recommendation
My advice is this, DO NOT go anywhere near Rite Aid Skin Care Lotion, Dry Skin Formula. If you use it now I strongly urge you to throw it in the trash. Don't fill the coffers of a mega corp that KNOWINGLY uses toxic ingredients in their so called skin care products. Vote with your wallet and maybe Rite Aid in time will learn not to put their customer's health at risk.
The Rite Aid corporation reported 16.5 billion dollars in sales in 2004 and they certainly will not suffer if you don't buy this or any of their products again. However, if you use or continue to use this product you may suffer a myriad of health effects in the long term.
Alternatives
There are legitimate alternatives to toxic products like these. You can make your own moisturizer products using natural ingredients.
Or, if you are someone who likes the peace of mind that your natural skin care products are certified organic I would refer you to the top rating Miessence skin moisturizer.
