Pureology Shampoo Review: Rating 2.2/10 Rated A Highly Toxic Hair Care Product in the Shampoo Category in the 2006 Natural Hair Care Product Review Cancer Proven | Cancer Link | Reproductive Toxins | Safety Violation | Penetration Agent | Untested Chemicals | Harmful Toxins | Animal Tested | Fragrance/ Allergen | Propylene Glycol | Sodium Lauryl Sulfate | Misleading Advertising | Introduction Pureology shampoo is highly toxic hair care product. This product's official name is Pureology Hydrate Shampoo. Positives While the founder of Pureology Jim Markham is to be commended for his philanthropy, there is absolutely nothing pure about the ingredients he uses in his hair care products. As you will soon discover Pureology uses many known hazardous chemicals in their products. Negatives The Pureology shampoo is quite literally a chemical soup with many of the ingredients never even tested for safety according to the C.I.R. - Cosmetic Ingredient Review. The chemicals that are certified by the C.I.R have been tested on animals. Cancer Linkage This product contains these highly toxic ingredients, POLYQUATERNIUM-7, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, QUATERNIUM-26 which has been linked to cancer in animal tests. Penetration Enhancers Also present are penetration enhancers: SODIUM LAUROYL SARCOSINATE. These agents work to infiltrate the skin membrane - i.e. penetration enhancer - and in doing so may increase exposures to carcinogens. Untested Chemicals Pureology Hydrate Shampoo contains chemicals that have not been assessed for safety in cosmetic formulas by the C.I.R. These chemicals are: DISODIUM LAURETH SULFOSUCCINATE, GUAR HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, DECYL GLUCOSIDE, ROSE, COCAMIDOPROPYL HYDROXYSULTAINE, GLYCERETH-26, SUPEROXIDE DISMUTASE, MELANIN, C11-15 PARETH-7, 1-DODECANOL, SANTALUM ALBUM (SANDALWOOD), HYDROLYZED OAT PROTEIN, GREEN TEA, CINNAMIDOPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, TRITICUM VULGARE (WHEAT) AMINO ACIDS, TRIDICETH-12, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED EXTRACT, HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN, GLYCERIN. Fragrance Of concern to sensitive people is the presence of - the vaguely termed - FRAGRANCE. This is an unspecified mixture of chemicals commonly used throughout the industry that have been linked to immune and nervous system toxicity. Parabens Pureology Hydrate Shampoo also contains PARABENS: methylparaben and propylparaben, chemicals that have been recently linked to breast cancer in women. This study was reported by the BBC Sunday 11 January 2004. Recommendation My advice is this, Don't Believe The Hype or the slick marketing by Pureology. Stay away from Pureology Hydrate Shampoo. If you use it now I strongly urge you to throw it in the trash. Don't fill the coffers of a mega corp that KNOWINGLY uses toxic ingredients in their so called skin care products. Vote with your wallet and maybe Pureology in time will learn not to put their customer's health at risk. Certified Organic Alternative Shampoo If you are someone who likes the peace of mind that your natural skin care products are certified organic I would refer you to the top rating herbal shampoo.
