Pureology Hair Conditioner Review: Rating 2.0/10 Rated A Highly Toxic Hair Care Product in the Conditioner Category in the 2006 Natural Hair Care Product Review Cancer Proven | Cancer Link | Reproductive Toxins | Safety Violation | Penetration Agent | Untested Chemicals | Harmful Toxins | Animal Tested | Fragrance/ Allergen | Propylene Glycol | Parabens | Disodium EDTA | Introduction Pureology Hair Conditioner is a highly toxic hair care product. This product's official name is Pureology Hydrate Conditioner. Positives?
While the founder of Pureology Jim Markham is to be commended for his philanthropy, there is absolutely nothing pure about the ingredients he uses in his hair care products. As you will soon discover Pureology uses many known hazardous chemicals in their products. Negatives The Pureology Hair Conditioner is quite literally a chemical soup with many of the ingredients never even tested for safety according to the C.I.R. - Cosmetic Ingredient Review. The chemicals that are certified by the C.I.R have been tested on animals. Cancer Linkage This product contains these highly toxic ingredients, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, MENTHA PIPERITA (PEPPERMINT) OIL which has been linked to cancer in animal tests. Breast Cancer Risk This product contains one ingredient - METHYLPARABEN - linked to breast cancer in women. This study was reported by the BBC Sunday 11 January 2004. Methylparaben is also a Xenoestrogen, mimicking the sex hormone estrogen. Penetration Enhancers Also present are penetration enhancers: MENTHA PIPERITA (PEPPERMINT) OIL. These agents work to infiltrate the skin membrane - i.e. penetration enhancer - and in doing so may increase exposures to carcinogens. Untested Chemicals Kerastase Pureology Hydrate Condition contains chemicals that have not been assessed for safety in cosmetic formulas by the C.I.R. These chemicals are: CITRIC ACID, DIMETHICONOL, OCTYL METHOXYCINNAMATE, GLYCERETH-26, SUPEROXIDE DISMUTASE, MELANIN, C11-15 PARETH-7, SALVIA OFFICINALIS (SAGE), ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS (ROSEMARY), HYDROLYZED OAT PROTEIN, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) ESTER, CINNAMIDOPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA BUTTER), TRITICUM VULGARE (WHEAT) AMINO ACIDS, MENTHA PIPERITA (PEPPERMINT), GLYCERIN, TRIDICETH-12, BEHENTRIMONIUM METHOSULFATE, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED EXTRACT, HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN. Fragrance Of concern to sensitive people is the presence of - the vaguely termed - FRAGRANCE. This is an unspecified mixture of chemicals commonly used throughout the industry that have been linked to immune and nervous system toxicity. Recommendation My advice is this, Don't Believe The Hype or the slick marketing by Kerastase. Stay away from Pureology Hydrate Conditioner. If you use it now I strongly urge you to throw it in the trash. Don't fill the coffers of a mega corp that KNOWINGLY uses toxic ingredients in their so called skin care products. Vote with your wallet and maybe Pureology in time will learn not to put their customer's health at risk.
