Introduction

Paul Mitchell Shampoo is a highly toxic hair care product. This product's official name is Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Daily Shampoo . The parent company John Paul Mitchell Systems had sales of 800 million dollars in 2004.

Positives?

There is nothing positive about this product according to the ingredient label. The Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Daily Shampoo does not meet any natural ingredient parameter.

In fact, if you were to inject this chemical cocktail into someone's bloodstream you would be locked up. I do not say this lightly, as there are penetration agents - SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE, TETRASODIUM EDTA - in this product that enables it to pass into your bloodstream unhindered.

Negatives

The Paul Mitchell Shampoo is quite literally a toxic soup with many of the ingredients never even tested for safety according to the C.I.R. - Cosmetic Ingredient Review. The chemicals that are certified by the C.I.R have been tested on animals.

This is contrary to claims made on the company website, where they say they "philosophically oppose" animal testing.Yet another company that lies through its teeth
and gets away with it.

Cancer Linkage

This product contains these highly toxic ingredients, DMDM HYDANTOIN, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE which have been linked to cancer in animal tests.

Reproductive Toxicity

This product contains one ingredient - IODOPROPYNYL BUTYLCARBAMATE - linked to reduced fertility and a reduced chance for a full term healthy pregnancy.

Penetration Enhancers

Also present are penetration enhancers: SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE, TETRASODIUM EDTA. These agents work to infiltrate the skin membrane - i.e. penetration enhancer - and in doing so may increase exposures to carcinogens.

Untested Chemicals

Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Daily Shampoo contains chemicals that have not been assessed for safety in cosmetic formulas by the C.I.R.

These chemicals are: CITRIC ACID, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA), POLYQUATERNIUM-44, DIMETHICONE BISAMINO HYDROXYPROPYL COPOLYOL, ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS (ROSEMARY), HAWAIIAN SEA KELP/ ALGAE, LAWSONIA INERMIS (HENNA), HEDYCHIUM CORONARIUM (BUTTERFLY GINGER), ALOE BARBADENSIS (ALOE VERA) LEAF, ANTHEMIS NOBILIS (CHAMOMILE) EXTRACT.

Fragrance

Of concern to sensitive people is the presence of - the vaguely termed - FRAGRANCE. This is an unspecified mixture of chemicals commonly used throughout the industry that have been linked to immune and nervous system toxicity.

Recommendation

My advice is this, Don't Believe The Hype or the slick marketing by John Paul Mitchell Systems. Stay away from Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Daily Shampoo . If you use it now I strongly urge you to throw it in the trash.

Don't fill the coffers of a multi-national that KNOWINGLY uses toxic ingredients in their so called skin care products. Vote with your wallet and maybe John Paul Mitchell Systems in time will learn not to put their customer's health at risk.

Certified Organic Alternative Shampoo

If you are someone who likes the peace of mind that your natural hair care products are certified organic I would refer you to the top rating herbal shampoo.
