Introduction Natures Gate Hair Conditioner is a mildly toxic hair care product. This product's official name is Natures Gate Organics Soy Fragrance Free Conditioner. The parent company Levlad does not disclose any financials on their corporate website. Positives Natures Gate is to be commended for using mostly natural ingredients in their hair conditioner, as well as their cruelty free policy. Negatives The major drawback is that Natures Gate products are not certified organic by any credible independent body. They do use certified organic ingredients, however the product as a whole is not certified because it contains synthetic chemicals. Animal Testing? The chemicals that are certified by the C.I.R have been tested on animals. This is contrary to vague claims made on the company website, where they say they "our ongoing efforts to preserve the earth's natural resources by being environmentally friendly and cruelty free." They may not test animals directly in their labs, however many of these chemicals have been previously tested on animals. Repulsive as it is, this is the only way the CIR can determine human safety parameters for chemicals like CETEARYL ALCOHOL, BEHENTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE and BISABOLOL - in this product's ingredients listed below. Penetration Enhancers Also present are penetration enhancers: BISABOLOL. These agents work to infiltrate the skin membrane - i.e. penetration enhancer - and in doing so may increase exposures to carcinogens. Untested Chemicals Natures Gate Organics Soy Fragrance Free Conditioner contains chemicals that have not been assessed for safety in cosmetic formulas by the C.I.R. These chemicals are: CITRIC ACID, CARAMEL, HYDROLYZED WHEAT STARCH, CITRUS PARADISI (GRAPEFRUIT) SEED EXTRACT, BEHENTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, ALOE BARBADENSIS (ALOE VERA), ALTHAEA OFFICINALIS (MARSHMALLOW), VEGETABLE GLYCERIN, CUCUMBER, EQUISETUM ARVENSE (HORSETAIL), LAVANDULA (LAVENDER) HYDROSOL, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) OIL, GLYCINE SOJA MILK, ALOYSIA TRIPHYLLA (LEMON VERBENA) HYDROSOL, HYDROLYZED WHEAT PROTEIN, ANTHEMIS NOBILIS (CHAMOMILE), GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) OIL, HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN. Recommendation Your decision to use this product would depend on what your goals are.
