Introduction
Jason skin moisturizer is a highly toxic natural skin care
product. This product's official name is Jason Natural Cosmetics,
Alpha 12 1/2 Plus Moisturizer. The parent company Hain Celestial
is a 685 million dollar operation.
Positives
There is nothing positive about this product according
to the ingredient label. The Jason skin moisturizer does not meet
any natural ingredient parameter. It is not certified organic and
it uses synthetic chemicals that have been tested on animals.
The fact that it is not certified organic - obviously - means that
there is a possibility the product contains G.M.O - genetically
modified organisms - and pesticides.
Negatives
The Jason skin moisturizer is a toxic chemical cocktail with many
of the ingredients never even tested for safety according to the
C.I.R. - Cosmetic Ingredient Review. The chemicals that are certified
by the C.I.R have been tested on animals. This is contrary to the
false claims made on its website.
Cancer Causing Agents
Jason Natural Cosmetics, Alpha 12 1/2 Plus Moisturizer scores in
most toxic parameters. It meets 9 of 12 toxic parameters, including
the most serious ones. The Jason skin moisturizer contains a known
human carcinogen - LACTIC
ACID. This chemical is a direct cancer causing agent.
Cancer Linkage
Jason skin moisturizer also contains an ingredient - TOCOPHERYL
ACETATE - that has been linked to cancer and other health
concerns.
Penetration Enhancers
Also present is a penetration enhancer- octyl methoxycinnamate.
These agents work to infiltrate the skin membrane - i.e. penetration
enhancer - and in doing so may increase exposures to carcinogens.
Untested Chemicals
Jason Natural Cosmetics, Alpha 12 1/2 Plus Moisturizer contains
20 unassessed chemicals that have not been assessed for safety in
cosmetic formulas by the C.I.R.
These chemicals are Aloe Vera Gel, Xanthan Gum, Chamomile Extract,
Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Sunflower Oil, Betaglucan, GLYCERIN
(vege), Primrose Oil, Comfrey Extract, NaPCA, PPG12/SMDI Copolymer,
titanium dioxide. Ingredients: Purified soft water, glycolic and
mixed fruit acids complex, potassium stearic, tocopheryl linolate
(vitamin E), glyceryl stearate - PEG 100 stearate, squalane oil
(vege), Ester C, liposomes of beta carotene, light FRAGRANCE.
Fragrance
Of concern to sensitive people is the presence of - the vaguely
termed - FRAGRANCE.
This is an allergen and can cause allergic reactions to some people.
Parabens
Jason skin moisturizer also contains parabens, chemicals that have
been recently linked to breast cancer in women. This study was reported
by the BBC
Sunday 11 January 2004.
Recommendation
My
advice is this, DO NOT believe the hype and false
claims of the Jason Natural brand. This product is just one example
across their line of how they hoodwink their trusting customers
into believing they are natural, or worse still organic. If you
use JASON Natural Cosmetics, Alpha 12 1/2 Plus Moisturizer now I
strongly urge you to dump it immediately.
Don't fill the coffers of a mega corp that masquerades as a mom
and pop business. This company KNOWINGLY uses toxic
ingredients in their so called natural skin care product lines.
Vote with your wallet and maybe Hain Celestial in time will learn
not to put their customer's health at risk. If you use or continue
to use this product you may suffer a myriad of health effects in
the long term.
Alternatives
There are legitimate alternatives to toxic products like these.
You can make your own moisturizer products using natural ingredients.
Or, if you are someone who likes the peace of mind that your natural
skin care products are certified organic I would refer you to the
top rating
Miessence skin moisturizer.
