Introduction Biolage Shampoo is a highly toxic hair care product. This product's official name is Biolage by Matrix Fortifying Shampoo. Positives? In a word, none because as you will soon discover Biolage uses many known hazardous chemicals in their products. In fact, if you were to inject this chemical concoction into someone's bloodstream you would be locked up. I do not say this lightly, as there are penetration agents - PROPYLENE GLYCOL &SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE - in this product that enables it to pass into your bloodstream unhindered.
Tested on Animals?
It is not certified organic and it uses synthetic chemicals that have been tested on animals. L'Oreal outsource's animal testers so as not to get their hands dirty. The fact that it is not certified organic - obviously - means that there is a possibility the product contains G.M.O - genetically modified organisms - and pesticides.
Negatives
The Biolage Shampoo despite the slick image is quite literally a toxic dump with many of the ingredients never even tested for safety according to the C.I.R. - Cosmetic Ingredient Review. The chemicals that are certified by the C.I.R have been tested on animals. Cancer Causing Agents The only area that Biolage by Matrix Fortifying Shampoo excels is in the toxic parameters. It meets 9 of 12 toxic parameters, including the most serious ones. This product contains carcinogens - FD&C BLUE 1. These chemicals are direct cancer causing agents. Cancer Linkage This product contains these highly toxic ingredients, POLYSORBATE-20, POLYQUATERNIUM-10 which have been linked to cancer in animal tests. Penetration Enhancers Also present are penetration enhancers: SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL. These agents work to infiltrate the skin membrane - i.e. penetration enhancer - and in doing so may increase exposures to carcinogens. Untested Chemicals Biolage by Matrix Fortifying Shampoo contains chemicals that have not been assessed for safety in cosmetic formulas by the C.I.R. These chemicals are: CITRIC ACID, ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, SODIUM CITRATE, GUANINE, COCAMIDE MIPA, SODIUM METHYLPARABEN, TRIETHANOLAMINE LAURYL SULFATE, CYMBOPOGON (LEMON GRASS) EXTRACT, LAURETH-10, HIBISCUS SABDARIFFA (ROSELLE) EXTRACT, 2-OLEAMIDO-1,3-OCTADECANEDIOL, FD&C BLUE 1, MACROCYSTIS PYRIFERA (KELP) EXTRACT. Fragrance Of concern to sensitive people is the presence of - the vaguely termed - FRAGRANCE. This is an unspecified mixture of chemicals commonly used throughout the industry that have been linked to immune and nervous system toxicity. Parabens Biolage by Matrix Fortifying Shampoo also contains PARABENS: methylparaben, chemicals that have been recently linked to breast cancer in women. This study was reported by the BBC Sunday 11 January 2004. Recommendation My advice is this, Don't Believe The Hype or the slick marketing by Biolage . Stay away from Biolage by Matrix Fortifying Shampoo. If you use it now I strongly urge you to throw it in the trash. Don't fill the coffers of a mega corp that KNOWINGLY uses toxic ingredients in their so called skin care products. Vote with your wallet and maybe L'Oreal in time will learn not to put their customer's health at risk. Certified Organic Alternative Shampoo If you are someone who likes the peace of mind that your natural hair care products are certified organic I would refer you to the top rating herbal shampoo.
